Kate has a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. She has been teaching a variety of styles for almost a decade, mostly classical and musical theatre but with forays into pop, folk, R&B, and rock. Why take lessons?
Simply put, there comes a point in competence where people need training in order to improve a physical skill. Most people can throw a ball, and some people can do so very fast, but almost no one has the skill to play professional baseball without substantial training- and even if you don’t desire to become a professional baseball player, you will still improve faster, have greater enjoyment in playing the game, and less likelihood of injury if you train. In the same way, taking voice lessons allows faster improvement, a reduction in the chance of vocal injury, and a higher level of achievement, allowing one to sing pieces which would have been entirely out of one’s reach without lessons.
Why take lessons from you?
I am an imaginative and thoughtful teacher. I teach students to have an active level of bodily awareness which is present in most professional singers (and which most other teachers don’t actively teach) and allows students to make a more consistent sound. My students, their parents, choir directors, and other people who listen to them have remarked upon their substantial improvement some time after switching to taking from me. And, well, I’ve made an awful lot of vocal mistakes, learned how to correct them in my own voice, and can apply that knowledge to my own students. I can help you.

How much are lessons?
Lessons are $70/hr or portion thereof- I offer hour-long and 45 minute lessons.
